Impact hypothesis loses its sparkle

Shock-synthesized diamonds said to prove that a catastrophic impact killed off North American megafauna such as the giant ground sloth and the wooly mammoth can’t be found, WUSTL scientists say. Prestigious judicial clerkships on the rise

The School of Law has announced that 22 recent graduates have secured prestigious judicial clerkships this year in 13 different states and the District of Columbia. Despite a difficult job market, the total number of law school graduates securing clerkships rose by more than 40 percent over 2009. FULL STORY

Some students at risk for difficulties in medical school

Students who enter medical school with high-debt levels, low scores on the Medical College Admissions Test or who are non-white are more likely to face difficulties that may prevent graduation or hinder their acceptance into a residency program if they do graduate, according to a nationwide study of students enrolled in MD programs. Author Kate Bernheimer to read from work

The haunting modern fairy tales of Kate Bernheimer echo and update stories and motifs drawn from traditional German, Russian and Yiddish folklore.   • Volleyball improves to 10-0. The volleyball team improved to 10-0 following four 3-0 victories of top-20 opponents at the Washington University/Asics National Invitational Sept. 10-11. The team, ranked No. 1 nationally, returns to action Friday, Sept. 17, at the DePauw University Invitational. The tournament features a showdown with No. 2 Juniata College Saturday, Sept. 18, a rematch of the 2009 NCAA championship game won by the Bears, 3-1.
